At first I was a little disappointed in this story. It wasn't the usual straight forward damsel in distress saved by the hero (even though she's kick-ass on her own) story I am used to. Don't get me wrong, love 'em that's why I buy them as soon as published. However, as I continued to read it started to make sense. I thought back to the other stories in the series and saw how everything was being tied together and the end is near. There won't be a need for extra epilogues to wrap it all up, nor will I feel unsatisfied or resentful that the Anderson story is ending and it's ending just in time. Won't have a chance to get bored or fall out of love with the characters. It left me excited for the next, and I'm assuming the last, book of the saga and ready to move on to something new. I'm pretty sure we will see some of our favorites in other stories by this author, especially Joseph. Going to really miss Katherine. Looking forward to the next generation though.What made me drop at least half a star was the disappointment in the main two characters. Yes, Smoke was a beautiful strong, honorable, considerate son and man , however, his degree of vanity and arrogance was a complete turn off. There's a major difference between being self confident and arrogant. Unfortunately, he was more the latter than the former. Amira was just as bad in believing she was perfection personified on one hand but on the other blamed her parents for all her perceived faults. They deserve each other.Different type of story from the previous ones and a nice break. It's going to be hard waiting for the finale. The Anderson Clan is not the main focus of this story. However, the action, excitement and romance that fills the book certainly revolves around the Anderson's, but it's primarily the special ops team of top retired military men that the Anderson's have bankrolled to clean up the drug crime in Seattle that pulls this together. Although the mission of the team to topple crime lords is fascinating there are also storylines from the previous Special Ops novels and hints at what will come next. These stories keep this book fast paced and interesting. The romance between Smoke (top operator Tyrell Rice) and Amira Ito ( reknown neurologist) is lovely. Tyrell (who'd have thought the magnificent specimen of an alpha male was a momma's boy?) never expected to meet a woman that was his perfect match. But with Amira, he has. His efforts to woo her and win her prove he's not as practiced in long term romantic wiles as he thinks. Amira also believes she's not meant to meet her soulmate. Fortunately, a new matchmaker has entered our saga, and no it's not Joseph. Lots of entertaining action, hints of sadness, unexpected twists and true love make this a great read.
